Becoming a parent means your priorities in life change, some things that were not of particular importance or interest to you become paramount and some things that caused you great worry in the past simply fall by the waste side.
Conservation of the earth is a potent subject in a world very quickly running out of fossil fuels and living under a diminishing Ozone layer. Global warming is one of the world’s biggest threats and although we all know about the warnings and many of us are a lot more pro-active about recycling etc. than were may have been even ten years ago, a lot of the time conservation of the environment may not be at the forefront of many people’s mind on a day to day basis.
For many people, this is something that changes when they become a parent. The worst thing imaginable would be a future in which our children or grandchildren could not survive – thanks to the mess we have left the planet in.
This thought has inspired a whole generation of more environmentally concerned children based on the love and care passed down from concerned parents. If you want your children to have a brighter outlook, you need to teach them about the environmentalism today so they have the tools to combat problems in the future.
The first thing to do is to educate them. Teach your children about the dangers of not being environmentally responsible and why it is important to look after the planet. You don’t have to be preachy about it, in fact if you are, your children are far less likely to listen.
You have to make sure your point is engaging to them so why not create activities around being green. Getting back to nature is a great start. Explain to your children why nature is important, if you instill good habits in your children when they are younger they are much more likely to carry them to adulthood.
Try to explain to your children that one day there will be no more coal or oil and attempt to glorify use of wind farms and solar panels and explain the rudimentary workings of renewable energy. Remember, the best thing you can do for your child is to lead by example so make sure you always recycle, you use less energy in the house as possible and do your part for the environment every day to ensure a better future for all of the children.
We should also be concerned for the welfare of our children. We should teach others on how to protect our environment.Protecting the environment is our participation to Mother Earth.By this,we show our concern to the young ones.
I really hope ALL parents could teach their children to fight for a greener environment. 🙂

Where we currently lived recycling are strictly imposed. Food, cardboard, tins, foil, paper, batteries, clothes, shoes, and a lot more. There is almost nothing left for the bin really and it is very impressive and amazing to see. If one do not abide the laws penalty will be issued straight away. I think it’s good to help to help a greener environment not on,y for us but to the future generations to come as well.
teaching kids can sometimes ineffective especially when they see their parents doing things that they’re not supposed to, like throwing trash anywhere…. we have to be a good role model to our children. We have to learn how to conserve the earth first before passing that knowledge to our children.
I guess i should start implementing this because i hate trash so i threw them straight in the dumpster!
I haven’t taught the the ways but I am leading example.. and I hope by doing it, they will also live a green life.. when they grow older I will explain to them why I am doing it 🙂
Indeed we will teach our kids the green way. But you know there are some people just throw their trash beside the road…
You gotta make everything fun for kids because their attention span is short they won’t listen to anything if you don’t make it interesting. So for us when teaching our boy about respecting mother nature, we do that by working in our garden and planting together and teach him about it. hehehehehehe.. they need to learn to love and respect mother-nature for sure.
I wash my daughter’s clothes and I see candy wrappers in her jeans’ pocket every time – makes me feel proud as a mother.
Children are naturally curious. They love to explore and learn new things so teaching them on how to take care of the environment while exploring the things around them at the same time would help them appreciate and love Mother Earth.
Lead by example, that’s what I always have in mind. If our kids see us wasting resources, then they will waste resources as well because in their young minds, everything their parents did are right. We can start small by influencing them, start with turning off the lights or fans if not in use, simple things like that. They’ll grow up having that habit in mind.
Parents should set a good example for children to emulate. Simple things like putting the trash in the waste basket. Even a small candy wrapper when piled up may clog the drainage. Turning the lights off when not in used is another. We have to let them realize the significance of mother nature.
i always remind my children how to use electricty wisely, put off the lights when not in use,and unplugging appliances after use are just some of the house rules i implement in our household. Lessening or as much as possible no use of plastic bags to help preserve our natural environment.
When we drive to the fish pond or to my in-law’s camp, we will always pass the windmills and these attracts our kids. It is wonderful to know that we teach our kids how to be green especially protecting the Earth and I do that with my kids too like recycling their paper works from school or some boxes and put them in the recycle bin instead of throwing it to the garbage can.
I will definitely teach Baby D the green way…BTW, I love the picture…green na green, just like your topic…ahehe
As parents we should lead by example to our kids. Teaching the right way without us doing the right thing is useless. Kids emulates what they see and often times it is their gauge of what is the proper thing to do.
Kids naturally love outdoors so I guess having them visit parks, beaches and other natural attractions matched with timely inputs will surely increase their awareness on the importance of nature.
so agree!..kaya ako as early as today na 2 palang si Iris I really teach her na matutong magtapon ng basura sa dapat nitong kalagyan..hindi yung kong saan-saan..I feel sorry for those parents..lalo na kong nakasakay ako ng jeep..when their kids give the basura like yung candy wrapper..sila pa nagtatapon sa labas ng jeep..not a very good example…na lang!
Since I don’t have a kid yet, I try to teach the principle of green living to my nephew. He’s only five, but age is never an excuse to teach something valuable to kids. So far, I can see what little he can do to help save the environment, which makes me a proud aunt. 😀
when you become a parent, you will worry about your kids future. some people here in US dont see that, they only see what is right now, so a lot of their kids grow up knowing nothing at all. its really important to educate our kids, to open their mind on whats gonna happen if they do this or that, it will make them more smarter and save the planet earth
honestly, i try to teach my kids to be environment-friendly -not to throw away thrash while in a public utility vehicle, try to separate biodegrable and non-biodegradable thrash (esp. with my little one), and, to keep plugs out when their gadgets have been fully charged.
I don’t have kids yet, but when I do, I’ll definitely teach them to live green and not contribute to the destruction of our environment. Honestly, every time I see children throw candy wrappers on the streets, I can’t help but think, why their parents didn’t teach them not to cause more mess?
