Put in Ozzy Osbourne, Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Patrick Stewart, Dolly Parton, and Hulk Hogan in a Shakespeare classic adapted into a film and you’re in for a lovely movie experience! Oh wait, it’s just their voices along with Sir Elton John’s pieces…
On the same lines as Toy Story with characters moving and talking when humans aren’t around, Gnomeo and Juliet (http://www.tescoentertainment.com/store/dvd/gnomeo–juliet/8%3a736611/) is sure to mesmerize kids and kids at heart alike. The story follows or has a lot of allusion to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet but comically as a lovestory between garden gnomes from feuding families, the blue (Montague) and red (Capulet). ^_^
Juliet, voiced by Blunt (Devil wears Prada) and Gnomeo, voiced by McAvoy (Becoming Jane) are the counterparts of well, Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague. Most of the characters are alluded from the famous play and did their part in the movie. All in all a good movie for animation junkies as myself but may not be as fun and emotional as 3D greats UP, Monsters Inc, Cars and finding Nemo. (Well, I know it’s not fair to compare a Touchstone Pictures production with Pixar but still…)
Gnomeo and Juliet is a good movie to watch with the family, the kids will get the idea of how the classic play goes. I have the book on my shelf and the kids would surely be curious about it later on. I like referencing to films when they are curious about how the story goes in the book. There’s Moses and the Prince of Egypt, Charlotte’s Web, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory plus Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator to the film of the same name as the first book that we have compared. The book may be too early for now but this movie will pique their interest for sure.
Gnomeo and Juliet is now out in Blu Ray and DVD.
I wish to watch movies here but we are not watching movies here yet…mahal kasi :)) so sa nETFLIX muna kme 🙂 kahit kung fu panda d p napapanood 🙁
