Why do we bring the kids to fun parks? There’s just so many people, it’s expensive, you have to go on long queues, it could be too hot, and the kids could go on a tantrum. True, in a sense, these things do happen, but there are a lot of good reasons too why we should bring the kids to a theme/amusement park.
In a theme park and amusement park, kids can be kids, tantrums included. Sure they would get tired, but the smile you would see on their faces would be priceless.
Amusement parks and theme parks could well be both called fun parks since the aim is for visitors to have fun, so we’ll refer to both as fun parks from hereon. There’s always benefits, some pros and also cons when we do things, let’s look on those good things that happen when we bring kids to fun parks.

Seeing A Different Side of the World
Fun parks are like an ideal world for kids where they can do nothing but play, be merry, and liberally eat sweets, and then be spoiled. Hopefully, the rather not so positive things to a certain extent only.
But even an ideal world like this can make them realize that they have to wait in order to be able to ride – not just because of the lines but because of age restrictions. While this will teach them patience and that not all can be had, it will dampen their spirits a bit.
Fun rides can be thrilling, but it can also cause them fear. So always make sure that the rides are age appropriate to avoid untoward incidences.
Trying Out Food
While fun parks are not the best place for healthy food, it’s just a one-day spree of high-carb treats.
They will find fun park food a bit curious and at times they are not sold on regular grocery stores. At theme parks, treats could appear or follow the theme altogether and adds both to the fun and excitement of eating out. And this will make kids learn to try other food, even in other places apart from fun parks. Being a citizen of the world through food is a good thing!
Pick up Humor
There’s a lot to laugh about at Fun Parks, the experience, the people you meet, even the operators would throw in some humor while you’re on rides.
Pretend Play and Dress Up
Theme parks give kids a chance to pretend play and dress up. Pretend play is instrumental in a child’s development, although not as a princess that should be catered to in a snap of a finger. Dressing up as princess though encourages creative thinking and social skills.
When children pretend play and dress up, they get to identify what they like or dislike. If they pretend to be a cook, a teacher, or a doctor, these might be things they see on TV and books but they get curious about what they do and channel them when they play. They might even use things around to portray the character they are pretending. They get to talk about their characters to to other kids.
*My son used a muslin as a cape when he was 2-years-old as he pretended to be Superman! He would run around the house and put it on, made me fix it if it falls off.
Casual Exercise
Walking around fun parks is like doing exercise without realizing it, both for kids and adult. Add the stairs that you have to go up to to ride the roller-coaster and you have some minutes spent to break a sweat. While your heart pounds after riding such rides, this is caused by adrenaline, a stress hormone. Your reaction is more of a danger-stimulated one than it is brought about by exercise. (Reason why rides doesn’t allow pregnant women and those with heart problems to ride off.)
There are however relaxing rides in certain fun parks. And those doesn’t get as much attention as roller-coasters.
The Peoplemover going around Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida is one such ride. As the name suggest, it’s an automated transport system with small trains going around elevated tracks. Imagine the transportation system in the movie Meet the Robinsons!
Riding the Peoplemover atop all the attractions in a slower pace, with the wind kissing your cheeks make you relax somehow. You can do some people watching and a little meditation of mundane things, even be in awe of man’s ability to create such an entertainment park and resort.
Other rides that offer relaxation are boats operating around any form of water, even man-made ones. This can be attributed to our body’s reaction when hearing and seeing water. Being around water lowers cortisol, the stress hormone and increases endorphins, the happiness hormones. Thus, riding a boat will make us feel content, even for that while on a ride. (Avoid the splashing roller-coaster though.)
Socialize
Like when out in the playgrounds, kids learn to be responsible for their actions, share turns in using the playground equipment, or even help in pushing, cooperating in making some of them move. They learn the same things at Fun Parks if they come along with cousins and friends.
Get Items
While not cheap, there are a lot of items that kids can get as souvenirs. At amusement parks, they had to give some effort before winning a plush toy.
Fun Childhood Memories
Bringing kids to Fun Parks will give them a lot to put in their memory banks. Those trips to the amusement parks and theme parks, all the rides they had, the food they liked, and if they actually puked after riding a roller-coaster.
Kids remember feelings, so what they felt on those days at fun parks will be lasting.
How fun! Summers are best spent in theme and fun parks!
Bring me along to your next fun park adventure! 🙂 🙂 🙂
